Consumption of liquid fuels in 2022 was 5.4 percent higher than in 2021, but consumption of gas fuels was 4.8 percent lower, according to data released today by the Portuguese Association of Oil Companies (Apetro).
“Total consumption of liquid fuels in 2022 is 5.4% above that of 2021 (representing an increase of 283.3 thousand tonnes), but total consumption of gaseous fuels was lower by 4.8% (representing a decrease of 40.2 thousand tonnes),” the association highlighted.
In a bulletin, which refers to the 4th quarter of 2022, Apetro also highlighted that “the total market for liquid road fuels fell 126.3 thousand tonnes (-8.3%) compared to the same quarter and 115.4 thousand tonnes (-7.7%) compared to the previous quarter”.
On the other hand, “in the consumption of gaseous fuels (Total LPG), there was a decrease of 34.2 thousand tonnes (-21.9%) compared to the same quarter and 79.0 thousand tonnes (-39.3%) compared to the previous quarter.
According to Apetro, in the case of gasoline, “consumption in the 4th quarter of 2022 was 16.5 thousand tonnes (-5.7%) lower than the same quarter the previous year, reaching 272 thousand tonnes”, and “compared with the previous quarter there was a decrease of 37.3 thousand tonnes (-12.1%)” and “annual consumption was 96.4 thousand tonnes (+9.9%) higher than in 2021”.
In turn, in relation to road diesel, in the 4th quarter of 2022 “its consumption was lower than the same period in 109.8 thousand tonnes (-9.0%), reaching a total of 1117 thousand tonnes”, and “in relation to the previous period there was a decrease of 78.1 thousand tonnes (-6.5%)”. The annual consumption “was higher by 186.9 thousand tonnes (+4.4%) compared to 2021”.
Analysing the consumption of LPG auto in the 4th quarter of 2022, it appears that “its consumption was lower than the same period in 0.1 thousand tonnes (-1.1%), reaching a total of 9 thousand tonnes” and that “in relation to the previous quarter there was a decrease of 0.5 thousand tonnes (-5.2%)”. In turn, “annual consumption was higher by 5.4 thousand tonnes (+17.6%) compared to 2021.
Apetro also reported on butane consumption in the last quarter of 2022, noting that “compared to the same period it was lower by 4.8 thousand tonnes (-12.2%), reaching a total of 35 thousand tonnes.” In parallel, compared to the previous period, “there was also a decrease of 31.5 thousand tonnes (-47.6%)” and “annual consumption was higher by 11.8 thousand tonnes (+5.6%) compared to 2021”.
Finally, the consumption of propane in the same period “was lower compared to the same period in 29.3 thousand tonnes (-27.3%), reaching a total of 78 thousand tonnes”, and in relation to the previous quarter, “there was a decrease of 47.0 thousand tonnes (-37.6%)” and the “annual consumption was lower in 57.4 thousand tonnes (-9.5%) compared to 2021”.
